Alyse Lehrke
Alyse began tutoring students in her first year of college when her English 101 teacher asked her to be a peer mentor in the writing center. Since then she has served as an editor, writer, writing teacher as well as individual writing coach. She loves helping students discover their gift for writing. The Bible teaches that our words are of life and death importance. Therefore, we must learn to use them wisely and effectively. Alyse's passion for "good" words led her to complete a B.A. in communication. She is excited to share her knowledge so the next generation will be able to influence their world through the written word. Get to know her more on her website.
Jennifer McCandless
The first time Jennifer started tutoring was in high school. She began helping friends with their papers and in a short amount of time she found herself peer editing for other students as well. Since that time she has taught a variety of different classes. After completing her Bachelor of Arts degree she went on to write articles, edit documents, and teach English classes. She has always felt that writing skills are the building blocks for any student's education. Through this philosophy she has found much excitement in guiding students as they make their own discoveries about themselves as writers.
Kris Mugge

“Writing is like molding clay,” Kris tells her students, encouraging them to try an angle and rework it if it doesn’t communicate the idea. For the last twelve years, these students have been her three homeschooled sons, and before them, college students. Kris started her career at Miami University studying literature. Needing money for college bills, she began working as a peer tutor in the writing center on campus and eventually managed that center, an experience that foreshadowed Kris’ future. Later, she completed a master’s degree in secondary education with a concentration in composition, hoping to open writing labs in local high schools. Instead, Kris found herself homeschooling her three sons, two of whom are dyslexic. Kris found her true love in homeschooling as this “job” gave her the opportunity to read, write, and teach great ideas to great kids. Now her sons are off finding their own way, and Kris desires to help others discover the joy of writing, reading, and learning. Kris still feels her best inclinations lie in teaching writing, sharing ideas, and encouraging students. When not teaching or preparing for classes, she enjoys spending time with family, reading, cooking, gardening, and traveling.
